Master of Science in Information Technology (MSc in IT):

Our programme will develop your ________ knowledge of Computer Science and your problem-solving and ________ skills while enabling you to achieve the ________ qualification for the IT professional. The programme structure is extremely ________, enabling you to personalise your MSc through a wide range of electives.

Options are – Ultimate, variable, analytical, flexible, theoretical, considerable, decisive

1. For the first blank, option Ultimate is grammatically correct, variable – no, analytical knowledge – no, there is no such thing as analytical knowledge (Again it all about Collocations), flexible knowledge – no, theoretical knowledge – yes, this can be correct, considerable knowledge – no, decisive knowledge – no. So we are left with two words “Ultimate Knowledge and Theoretical Knowledge”. So we don’t know which one will be correct, now we leave it as it is.

2. Second Blank – Next is knowledge of Computer Science and your problem-solving ________ skills. Ultimate skills – no, variable skills – no, analytical skills – yes (it can be correct), flexible skills – no, theoretical skills – no (there is no such thing as theoretical skills, there must be practical skills), considerable skills – no, decisive skills – no. So we are left with only one word that is analytical skills.

3. Third Blank – While enabling you to achieve the ________ qualification. Ultimate qualification – yes (this can be correct), variable qualification – no, analytical qualification – no, flexible qualification – no (there is no such thing like flexible qualification), theoretical qualification – no, considerable qualification – no, decisive qualification – no. Again we are left with only one word i.e “Ultimate qualification”. So we will fill ultimate qualification and as a result of this, we will fill the first blank with word “Theoretical”.

4. Fourth Blank – The programme structure is extremely “________”, it must be “flexible”, because if you have read so many academic articles and brochures of any Master Science information technology, then you can easily pick the word flexible. But if you don’t then don’t worry. We’ll again exclude the words extremely ultimate – no, variable – no, analytical – no, flexible – yes (this we have used already), theoretical -no, considerable – no, decisive – no. If you know the meaning of these two “Considerable and Decisive” words, then you can easily find out that these words cannot be picked and filled in the fourth blank, so we are left with word “flexible”.

This is just an example to show that how you can also solve PTE Academic Fill in the Blanks to some extent even if you don’t know the meaning of particular words which were given to you as options to fill the gap in the passage. But this does not mean that Vocabulary and Collocations are of no importance. Ultimately to crack PTE fill in the blanks, we require two things to choose the correct blank – one is grammar and second is vocabulary (Meaning of that particular word, you need to know that).
